Chemical Properties of EPS

Polystyrene EPS surface is destroyed under long term UV radiation (turns from white to yellow). Therefore, it is necessary to use proper cover for protection.

Expanded polystyrene products are resistant to many substances such as:

dilute acids     • alkalis     • water- soluble paints     • methanol     • i-propanol     • water- soluble adhesives

Expanded polystyrene products are not resistant to organic solvents such as:

hydrocarbons     • ketones     • chlorinated hydrocarbons     • esters

Anhydrous acids such as glacial acetic acid, nitric or sulphuric acid also destroy the EPS foam.
